J F Rey
A French designer who revolutionised the world of eyewear in the 1980’s by imposing a new and offbeat style.
Jean – Francois Rey came from a family in the eyewear industry and designed his first eyewear collection aged 16. In the more than forty years since then he’s had many collaborative partnerships, often with the grandmasters of the fashion industry. Through changes in technology and use of different materials he has pushed the boundaries and redefined fashion.
A good example is Rey’s early adoption of 3D printing techniques to enable the design of unique and complex shapes. It has also allowed a significant improvement in sustainability, with the use cotton-based acetate for plastic frames.
J F Rey glasses are still made in France, and their different ranges and funky, fashion-oriented looks suit a wide mix of our patients.

Robert is a director of Black Gates Optometrists where he has worked since 1989. He’s worn glasses since he was five, and his face shape has led him to exploring not just frame fit, but lens design and the complete glasses experience, a process that he uses to optimise the end result for all patients he helps.
He has a special interest in Myopia Control and using the latest research and technology to reduce the rate of short sightedness in growing kids to prevent the occurrence of sight threating conditions later in life.
Robert is married and has three adult children. Outside work his interest include travel, motorsports, golf and fishing. He has an eight-year-old Tea Cup Imperial Shih Tzu called Charlie.
