Soft contact lenses are very comfortable and easy to wear and are a great alternative to glasses for some people. Most people get used to their lenses in minutes and afterwards say that it feels like nothing at all is being worn on the eye.
How easy are they to use?
Eye contacts are easy to apply and remove once you are shown how to do it properly. Our Optometrists take the time to make sure you are comfortable doing this as part of a contact lens consultation.
What type of contact lenses should I use?
There are many types of contact lenses available, including soft contact lenses, rigid contact lenses and specialised lenses. Just within soft lenses there are daily contact lenses, reusable, and continuous wear lenses. There is a lot of choice, but our highly trained optometrists are experts at working out what your options are and helping you make the best choice for your needs.

Are there any risks to the health of my eyes?
Contact lens related eye infections are rare; and usually result from improper wear or caring for your lenses. Here at Black Gates Optometrists, our opticians can advise you on the best product and care for the health or your eyes.
Can contact lenses get ‘lost’ behind my eyes?
It is physically impossible for lenses to get ‘lost’ behind your eye. A thin membrane covers your eye and connects to your eyelids, so the lens is unable to move off the front surface of your eye.
How old do you have to be to wear contact lenses?
Dr Jeffrey Walline of Ohio State University has studied contact lens wear in 8–11-year-olds and found that they did at least as well as their adult counterparts. We will carefully consider each individual’s suitability for contact lenses regardless of age.
What about the cost?
We often get asked about contact lens prices. The daily cost of contact lenses is no more expensive than a cup of coffee or a newspaper. Compared to the price, the benefits are priceless.
